Brazil, the worldโs largest poultry exporter, has reported its first outbreak of bird flu at a local poultry farm, prompting a wave of trade restrictions from several countries.
According to Brazilian Agriculture Minister Carlos Fรกvaro, current protocols stipulate that countries such as China โ the largest importer of Brazilian poultry โ along with the European Union and South Korea, will impose a 60-day ban on poultry imports from Brazil.
Meanwhile, Argentina has announced the suspension of all poultry product imports from its neighbor until it can confirm the absence of the virus.
Fรกvaro noted that recent updates to protocols with key partners like Japan, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia stipulate that bans will apply only to products coming from the affected state, and may later be narrowed down to just the infected municipality.
